Unlike the <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>chocolate</strong></em></span> products that we know and love today, <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>chocolate</strong></em></span> was originally consumed in liquid form during its earliest introduction to the human <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>diet</strong></em></span>. The solid form of <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>chocolate</strong></em></span> didn&#8217;t quite come about until the 18th century.</p>
<p>A particular study reported by the BBC discovered that just by tasting a small piece of <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>chocolate</strong></em>,</span> a person&#8217;s brain activity and heart rate would increase, and was actually compared to be even more intense than the reaction of the human body to passionate kissing. Not to mention, the effects also lasted a lot longer.<span id="more-3018"></span></p>
<p>A number of studies have shown that dark <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>chocolate</strong></em></span> specifically can actually positively affect the human circulatory system, and even effect <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>health</strong></em></span> areas of anticancer, brain stimulation, cough prevention, and also anti-diarrheal issues.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>Chocolate</strong></em></span> is one of the most enjoyable foods to eat, but did you know about its <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>health</strong></em></span> benefits? A recent study performed in Sweden revealed that women who eat at least 1-2 portions of <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>chocolate</strong></em></span> had 32% less risk of developing any type of heart failure, and 26% less risk found in those who consumed it at least a few times a month.</p>
<p>Although this is great news for <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>chocolate</strong></em></span> lovers, we still need to limit ourselves. Women who chose to increase their consumption of <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>chocolate</strong></em></span> beyond 20 to 30 grams per month showed signs of actually increasing their risk of developing heart failure by up to 23%.</p>
<p>Women who keep their portion consumption under control will be able to reap the <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>health</strong></em></span> benefits of decreased risk of heart disease when they keep their consumption to just 20 to 30 grams per portion. In opposition, those women who increase their daily portion above the 20 to 30 gram limit will undoubtedly see harmful effects of excessive <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>chocolate</strong></em></span> and fat content&#8211;such as an increased risk of heart disease and other heart conditions.</p>
<p>While these findings held strong and were backed up by loads of scientific research and evidence, an older study similar to this one which researched the correlation between the development of heart disease and portion control and consumption of <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>chocolate</strong></em> </span>food products found that women who consumed <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>chocolate</strong></em></span> in excessive amounts&#8211;particularly around 7.5 grams on a daily basis&#8211;actually held a 39% lower risk advantage compared to women who actually did not consume any <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>chocolate</strong></em></span> food products at all on a regular basis.</p>
<p>Several other studies that have been performed in the past have mainly been focused entirely on the effects of <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>chocolate</strong></em></span> consumption on blood pressure, which has been proven time and time again to lower blood pressure overall. These studies that take a look at the relationship between heart failure and <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>chocolate</strong></em></span> consumption are some of the first ones that have examined a different area of <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>health</strong></em></span>. Heart failure relates to the type of <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>health</strong></em></span> condition where the heart ins actually impaired from effectively pumping enough blood from the heart throughout the rest of the body.</p>
<p>Cocoa is the one crucial ingredient you need if you want to reap all the <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>health</strong></em></span> benefits from chocolate. Plant compounds found in cocoa have been proven to help our bodies process and break down other compounds called nitric acid, which is necessary to ensure a <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>health</strong></em></span> blood flow in our bodies and good levels of blood pressure in the long run. A study done in Italy was one of the first to prove this, and the <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>health</strong></em></span> benefits associated with cocoa ingredients are obviously associated with the flavanol-rich compounds that come with cocoa. <p>People strive to maintain their <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>diet</strong></em></span> for weight control. To maintain the ideal weight is something a little difficult to achieve and a dieter needs to be focused on the target weight. To gain extra weight is very easy. Ignoring weight gain signals a few times may end up in becoming slightly overweight and if it goes on and on, one may find himself or herself unable to get up because of obesity.<span id="more-3013"></span></p>
<p>Obesity is associated with several illnesses that may include chronic fatigue, sleep apnea, liver disease, urinary problems, premature aging and depression. Losing weight may help a lot in preventing any of these diseases or any complications that may arise.</p>

Doing exercises coupled with proper nutrition, enough rest and sleep may be beneficial especially to those who are struggling with weight control. Replacing snacks with fresh fruits and juices would be better. People should take dietary supplements with precaution and only when it is needed.</p>

Another factor that should be considered is geographical location. <p>Diet sodas do satisfy thirst and offer hydration without contributing additional calories that you mentally calculate with every food or drink you take. They have calorie-free artificial sweeteners which take care of your sweet tooth cravings minus the additional pounds on the scale. Some diet sodas even boast of vitamins and minerals as ingredients.<span id="more-3008"></span></p>
<p>Diet sodas appear to be the best alternative to ingesting a chocolate shake or a regular soft drink. Well, it is “<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>diet</strong></em></span>” after all, right? Because <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>diet</strong></em></span> sodas have artificial sweeteners, first they are not sweet at all, and 2nd less sweet is equal to fewer calories, less fat. Sounds like the best deal, right?</p>
<p>However, <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>diet</strong></em> </span>soda drinkers need to understand a few points that come with this “<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>healthy</strong></em></span>, unsweetened” drink to understand what really comes with this <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>diet</strong></em></span> drink.</p>
<p>1. <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>Diet</strong></em></span> sodas have artificial sweeteners. &#8211; While you may be thinking that artificial sweeteners mean “unsweet”, truth is they are artificial or fake. With this fake ingredient, a person’s taste buds actually get confused with what is being introduced to them. That part in your brain which dictates the responses to your hunger and craving desires is getting mixed signals with this fake ingredient that you are ingesting. While you have ingested a “sweet” drink, your brain says, “No, it’s not sweet enough.” Now, how confused will your hunger signals be with that?</p>

Dieters may fall prey to that thinking because they are under the assumption that because they already have a “<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>healthy</strong></em></span>, unsweetened” drink, they can do away with sweeter, unhealthy food and bigger portions in their meals.</p>

There are no known concrete evidences that <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>diet</strong></em></span> sodas actually aid in <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>weight loss</strong></em>.</span> &#8211; Sure, it saves you a few calories off your weight but what else can it do to bring you down a few sizes down from your current weight? By substituting your regular carbonated drink with a <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>diet</strong></em></span> one means you do ingest less sugar but that’s about it. A substitute for just one unhealthy food in your <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>diet</strong></em></span> but does it have any other health benefits at all?</p>

Caffeine is addicting and can actually worsen ones thirst while phosphoric acid takes away the calcium in your teeth and bones thus your body is not meeting the requirements of phosphorus and calcium. Potassium and sodium benzoate are preservatives that help in preventing bacteria and molds to grow on sodas. However, when mixed with Vitamin C, they become chemicals that can cause leukemia and other cancers.</p>

And though the study still is not 100% conclusive, the association between <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>diet</strong></em></span> soda drinkers and heart problems is there.</p>

<p>Do you feel like you&#8217;re constantly giving in to your sweet tooth? Are your cravings so constant that they&#8217;re hard to ignore? Like any other habit, turning to sugar can be a tough one to kick. It seems like the more sweets and desserts you have, the more you are waiting for the next hit. Where does the battle end?</p>
<p>There isn&#8217;t a single cure-all to this problem, but in general, the less sweets you eat, the less you&#8217;ll crave them. So how do you get to that point? Here are a few tips that just might help you pull your own sweet tooth once and for all.<span id="more-2980"></span></p>
<ul>
<li>Try to find a substitute. Generally, people tend to crave sweets after a meal or as a pick-me-up in the late afternoon. It might be helpful to have something else there and ready to fight off those cravings. For example, peppermint tea might work in the evening, a box of raisins in the afternoon, a piece of fruit, or anything else that you can think of that would be somewhat nutritious and easy to keep with you. If you must have &#8220;sweet,&#8221; go with something that&#8217;s naturally sweet, such as dried fruit or even 100% fruit juice.</li>
<li>Wait out the craving. Most nutrition experts say that the cravings you experience will only last a couple of minutes. So if you can wait it out, they will pass and you will be better for it. Try to occupy yourself for a good 10 minutes when you get a craving. Call a friend, take a short walk or do something to distract yourself.</li>
<li>Set daily goals and reward yourself for meeting them. To a sugar addict, nothing is tougher than getting through the day without a sugary treat. The longer you can hold out, the easier it will become, so try to find a reward that would be worth holding out for. I did this about a year ago and gave myself a dollar for every day that I did not indulge in sweets, and at the end of the month, I would go get a manicure or buy myself something nice.</li>
<li>Recruit someone to do it with you. If you are married or have a family, this would be a healthy habit for everyone to adopt. Clean out the cupboards and refrigerator of unhealthy foods and tempting treats. Make it a team effort. Hold each other accountable and support one another through the tough times.</li>
<li>Put yourself in good situations. If you are one who loves to use the vending machines at work or will drive through the local gas station to fill up on snacks, then try to do things in a new way to prevent yourself from falling into old habits. Clean out all of the change and single dollar bills in your wallet so you aren&#8217;t able to feed the vending machine. Make sure you fill up on gas when someone is with you. Go grocery shopping after a meal, so you don’t load up on unhealthy foods.</li>
</ul>
<p>As hard as it might be to believe, you CAN quit the sugar habit. Not only will you probably lose some weight, but you will feel better and more energetic. Good luck!</p>

<p>You consume sodium every single day, and that&#8217;s a good thing! Our bodies need sodium to help maintain water and mineral balances and blood volume. But too much of a good thing (sodium in this case) can have negative effects on your <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>health</strong></em></span>, such as an increased risk for high blood pressure (which contributes to heart disease and stroke). While most of us get enough sodium each day to meet our bodies&#8217; needs (about 1,500 milligrams), the average person consumes way too much! Experts recommend that adults consume less than 2,300 milligrams of sodium daily—that&#8217;s about 1 teaspoon of salt.<span id="more-2976"></span></p>
<p>Sodium is a mineral that occurs naturally in foods that you eat every day, including meats, nuts, grains, and dairy. Salt and sodium are not the same things—but salt is made from sodium (and chloride). What you might not realize, however, is that “hidden” sodium found in processed foods (in the form of salt) makes up the largest proportion of the sodium that adults consume (in addition to any salt that you add yourself).</p>
<p>Cutting back on sodium is one action you can take to reduce your risk of high blood pressure and its related complications. Keep in mind that your taste buds are probably accustomed to a strong taste of salt, so limiting your consumption might take a little getting used to, but your <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>health</strong></em> </span>is worth it!</p>
<p><strong>Here are some sodium-cutting tips you can try today:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Introduce additional flavor to your foods with herbs and spices like garlic, oregano, basil, pepper, thyme and sesame. These all add flavor without the extra sodium. If a recipe calls for salt, cut the amount called for in half and taste it before adding more.</li>
<li>Make <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>healthy</strong></em></span> choices at the grocery store. Processed foods (anything in a box or bag) tend to be high in sodium because it helps preserve foods longer and increase flavor. Always read labels for the foods you buy, including the sodium content on the nutrition facts label and the ingredients list.</li>
<li>Remember that &#8220;low-fat&#8221; or &#8220;low-calorie&#8221; doesn&#8217;t mean <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>healthy</strong></em></span>. These <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>diet</strong></em></span> foods can also be higher in sodium because manufacturers hope that added sodium, a flavor-enhancer, will bring back the flavor that is missing since fat and other higher-calorie ingredients are removed. This is especially true for frozen dinners, which are often loaded with extra salt.</li>
<li>Choose low-, no- or reduced-sodium versions of your favorite soups, frozen meals, canned foods, and snacks. Even butter is available without added salt!</li>
<li>Choose fresh or frozen veggies over canned varieties, which often contain added salt to help increase shelf life. If you can&#8217;t find sodium-free varieties of canned vegetables, rinse the can&#8217;s contents in a colander under water before cooking to remove excess salt.</li>
<li>Olives, pickles and other items packed in brine are saturated in salt, as are many smoked and cured meats, like salami and bologna. Limit your intake of these high-sodium foods and be on the lookout for lower-sodium varieties.</li>
<li>Fast foods are high in more things than just fat. Many of these meals, sandwiches and fries contain more than your daily recommended intake of sodium in just one serving. When consulting restaurant websites to make <em><strong>healthy</strong></em> choices, pay attention to sodium levels as well. By keeping your portions in check (order a junior burger or small French fry instead of the big burgers and super fries) will help control your sodium (and caloric) intake.</li>
</ul>
